Today the Casa Cava is a fantastic theater and conference center. Completely excavated in the tuff, in the heart of the Sasso Barisano, it was once nothing more than an ancient tuff quarry. Discovered in the 90s by Enzo Viti, a well-known scholar and lover of the history of the city, it was a landfill. The site (which is the only case of a pit of this size entirely excavated by hand) after its recovery in 2011 has been the subject of a long debate on its future use. Due to its acoustic and phonic characteristics it was decided to use it for theatrical and concert use.
