Church of San Francesco da Paola
The Church of San Francesco da Paola is located in the historic center of Matera where its archconfraternity is located under the guidance of the Rector A. Tortorelli since 1948. It has an important role for the city because it is here that the painting of the Madonna della Bruna on 2 July after the shepherds’ procession. It was built in stages precisely due to the lack of funds and thanks to the tenacity of the brotherhood and the Congregation initially composed of laborers, artisans and shopkeepers but then also noble names such as Malvezzi, Gattini, De Miccolis, Sorrentino and Venusio took part in it.
