Santa Lucia Alle Malve
is one of the most important rock churches of the urban circuit of the Città dei Sassi has a facade carved into the rock. On the entrance doors the coat of arms of Saint Lucia is represented in bas-relief, the chalice with the eyes. The Rock Church has three naves marked by pillars with round arches, Czech arches, flat ceiling with dome. The right aisle shows a mullioned window. There are medieval frescoes dated between the 13th and 14th centuries: San Michele Arcangelo, Madonna delle Grazie, San Giovanni Battista and other religious authorities. One part is open to worship on 13 December for the celebrations in honor of the Saint. On the roof of the church is the Barbarian cemetery with early medieval tombs dating back to the 7th century AD. One of the oldest monastic complexes, Santa Lucia was founded in 1160 and 1200 AD.
